The annual free clinic organized by the Traditional Psychiatry Department of Manasa Ayurveda Hospital is conducted in parallel with World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October each year. This has been continuing since 2001.
On this special occasion, we serve nearly 200 patients, providing comprehensive care completely free of charge. This includes rational Ayurvedic treatments, patient consultations, psychological counselling, and occupational therapy, delivered by a dedicated team of doctors and counsellors attached to Manasa Ayurveda Hospital.
This initiative is organized by the Welfare Department of the hospital with the aim of extending compassionate care to underserved communities. In addition, a select group of underprivileged patients are enrolled in long-term care in
in-patient department programs, where they are not only treated but also empowered through occupational opportunities. This enables them to reintegrate into society with dignity and gradually become self-reliant.
The free clinic provides treatment to both local and foreign patients, incorporating traditional herbal head-pack therapies as part of the healing process.
Children are treated through a holistic approach that integrates complementary modalities such as acupuncture and homeopathy.
The application of rational pulse diagnosis in the evaluation of psychiatric patients was pioneered by the Founder Chairman of Manasa Ayurveda Hospital, recognized as the first and only Ayurvedic psychiatric hospital in Sri Lanka, established in 1890.
